Route context
This is not a mountain trail but a race. The 10K Nocturna Playa de Gandia is one of the most established popular races in La Safor: a course certified by the RFEA (the Spanish athletics federation), completely flat and fast, run at night in midsummer beside the Mediterranean. Ten kilometres along the wide avenues and the seafront promenade, with start and finish on the seafront. Entries and details for each edition are on the official website.
Route description
Start on the seafront promenade
The race starts on the seafront promenade of Playa de Gandia, where the finish line also stands. The night-time atmosphere and the start arch mark the beginning of an urban circuit, flat and fast-surfaced, designed for running at a good pace.
Avenues of Playa de Gandia
The course links the wide avenues of the seafront. With almost no elevation, the route is comfortable and quick, ideal for chasing a personal best. As an organised race, traffic is managed by the organisers throughout the event.
Aid station and final kilometres
Around the halfway point there is a water station, important on a summer night. From there, the final kilometres head back towards the seafront promenade, closing the circuit.
Finish on the seafront promenade
The finish is again on the seafront promenade, with the festive atmosphere typical of the race. Start and finish coincide, so the route is a loop.
Points of interest
- Seafront promenade of Playa de Gandia Gandia's seafront, home to the start and finish. The backbone of the course and the gathering point for the race.
- Water station (km 5) Hydration point around the middle of the circuit, key in a summer night race.
- Playa de Gandia The wide fine-sand Mediterranean beach that runs alongside the whole course and gives the race its name.
Specific precautions
This is a certified race, not a free route: it is run on event day with the organisation, timing and traffic management in place. Although it is at night, summer heat and humidity are demanding: hydrate well and use the water station. Wear running shoes; the surface is flat asphalt. Always follow the organisers' instructions. To take part you must register on the official website.
